I recently discovered and applied for a Peace Corps sponsored program for teens called "Global Leadership Adventures" (GLA). It sends teens to overseas locations for (3) week terms over the summer to tackle various community service projects. (See link above.) I applied for their program supporting children’s education in Bali next summer, and recently received word that I was accepted!
As part of Bali’s "Children’s Education in Action" program, a group of us will be going into overlooked villages and impoverished communities to volunteer at an English camp. Our main goal will be to help teach Balinese youth how to speak English, a skill that can unlock advancement opportunities for them in their tourism driven economy. While doing this, we will get a rare peek into their daily Balinese lives, culture and customs. I foresee this to be a life altering trip.
Unfortunately this program is not without cost! I need to raise and save all the money I can to make it happen. The program is $5,400 + air/travel costs. My mom and I are committed to saving and paying for traveling costs, and GLA has awarded me a $1,600 scholarship. This leaves a balance of $3,800 owed to make this experience happen!
If you are in receipt of this, our family considers you a trusted friend that might be interested in helping with this endeavor. We completely understand if you are unable to contribute at this time, but if this should find you're at point in life that you are able to pay it forward, we would so appreciate anything you can do to help. A simple $20 contribution would be HUGE and greatly appreciated!!
