Ndwara Library
Donation protected
In 2010, two librarians, one Canadian and one Kenyan decided to improve the lot of people in the Kenyan's home village of Ndwara, by building a public library to support literacy, health and job development. Ndwara is a very poor village of about 1500 people, in southwestern Kenya, near Lake Victoria. The people are primarily subsistence farmers and the village lacks running water. The library project led to the building of a secondary school.
The library building is almost complete, and we have been offering library service out of a church building since 2011. The library is heavily used, and we are looking forward to moving into the new space. Any money raised now will be going towards furnishing the library. For pictures, and if people want to follow the progress of the library, we have a Facebook site called "Ndwara Community Resource Centre".
