Neale Atkins needs double lung transplant (Cystic Fibrosis)
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Neale Atkins, and I’m reaching out for help during the most challenging chapter of my life. I was born with cystic fibrosis, a degenerative lung disease that has gradually stolen my breath and now threatens my life. My lung function has deteriorated to just under 20%, and in the past six months alone, I’ve had three hospital admissions. Every day feels like a battle just to breathe, and now my only hope for a future is a life-saving double lung transplant.
Cystic fibrosis is relentless. It doesn’t just affect my lungs but my entire body, making even the simplest tasks exhausting and increasing my vulnerability to infections. Over the years, I’ve worked extremely hard to live as fully as possible despite the limitations this disease imposes. But now, my body can no longer keep up, and my health has reached a critical point.
A double lung transplant is my only chance to regain my life, but it’s a daunting journey. The medical costs, travel expenses, post-operative care, and rehabilitation are overwhelming, even with the support of loved ones. Additionally, my partner, Natalie, will need to sacrifice three months of her life to be my full-time carer. She will be by my side 24/7 during this critical recovery period, unable to work and facing her own challenges as she helps me navigate this life-changing procedure. This added layer of financial strain makes your support even more vital.
This isn’t just about extending my life; it’s about reclaiming it. I dream of being able to spend more time with my loved ones, to run around with my nieces and nephew without gasping for air, and to continue my passions like clay shooting, basketball, sim racing and guitar playing—things I love but can only enjoy in small doses now.
By supporting this fundraiser, you’re not just helping me access a transplant; you’re giving me a chance to live a life that isn’t defined by CF. You’re helping me spread awareness about this cruel disease and showing others in similar situations that they are not alone.
Every donation, no matter the size, brings me closer to breathing freely again. If you’re unable to donate, sharing my story would mean the world to me. Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering supporting my journey to a new pair of lungs and a renewed life.
With gratitude,
Neale
