Need a little help while I recover

Hi, I’m Tim Cairns. Here is my story and hopefully you can help me out. Growing up I was taught self dependence and so this is a little hard for me. I’m a Test Engineer in the auto industry. I’m 52 and over the years have tried to do all the right things. I went to University of Michigan after high school and followed my passion becoming a graduate of Aerospace Engineering. NASA wasn't hiring so I decided to get into computer support instead and worked for 5 years supporting GM through EDS. I saw how the test engineers worked and became interested in that. I got a masters in mechanical engineering and went to work with Defiance Engineering. I fell in love with my wife Christine and thought all was great. We had a child, Nathan, who is now 16. But along the way I had some medical issues. I had my gallbladder out and they found my liver compromised. Apparently a genetic disease called hemochromatosis had attacked my liver. I held out for many years without issues and then I started getting worse. 3 years ago I was put on the transplant list and it took that long for a liver and also a kidney became available. On my birthday, Dec 4, I was transplanted with both. Only a couple of days earlier though, I was laid off from my job at Chrysler. Lucky timing, as I still have insurance but bad timing since I won’t be able to work for about 3-6 months. We have some savings but not enough for that long. And even know I paid into short term disability we found out there is a disclaimer that says no pre-existing conditions. So we are without my income while I recover. Christine quit her Advertising career to be a stay at home Mom with Nathan. 10 years ago she started working part time at our local school. Please help me and my family if you can, but if not have a wonderful holiday! Thank God for all the goodness he has given me!
