Needing help after a terrible car accident
Donation protected
3 months ago my dear friend Jerry was in a terrible car accident. While driving on the main highway here in Richmond, he was hit by a drunk driver and his car flipped 5 times. He survived, but his face, throat and abdomen were completely torn apart by his steering wheel, seatbelt and the road.
Jerry is in charge of all maintenance in the apartment building where my husband and I have lived for the last 5 years and has been a constant fixture in our lives during this time.
He always had a smile and a contagious laugh. He would greet me with a "Hey sweetheart" and toss in a "Hey little man" plus a high five for my son. Now his jaw is wired shut and his smile has had to be completely reconstructed.
I feel like he was just here "helping" my son fix the sink, but then suddenly disappeared. Now I know why. This weekend we're moving out of the apartment that we've called home for 5 years. As I pack, I look around and I can't help but think of all the ways that Jerry has taken care of us over the years. It only feels right to do something now to take care of him, and that is why I am asking for your help.
This account will help Jerry to pay for medical bills, the necessary changes he will need to his house, but most importantly I hope that it serves as a reminder that he is not alone.
$100, $50, $20, $2 - it doesn't matter. Every little bit helps. Every little bit counts. Because even more important than the dollar amount is your name. Your name on the side of this page saying that you care, that you're glad he survived, even when he's not, and that your in this world wishing him well.
Thank you, thank you for your support.
