NEEMA INTERNATIONAL IS BUYING A SECONDARY SCHOOL!!!
As we all know, education is crucial to breaking the cycle of poverty. In Tanzania, over 3.5 million primary and secondary school aged children are out of school-- and for those who are enrolled in school, the majority experience overcrowded classrooms, undertrained teachers, and environments that lack the emotional and physical safety necessary for learning.
Here at Neema, we’ve spent years working to change this reality. Through our programs, we’ve supported more than 300 orphaned and/or vulnerable children by providing them access to quality education, health insurance, mentorship, and a safe environment where they can thrive. But we know the journey doesn’t end with primary school. Secondary education is very important in preparing students for meaningful opportunities, and we are committed to ensuring that every child we serve has access to a safe, nurturing secondary school experience.
While this has been in the works for quite some time, we wanted to wait for Giving Tuesday to make this huge announcement. NEEMA INTERNATIONAL IS EXPANDING AND WILL OWN OUR OWN SECONDARY SCHOOL!!! There is a school in Moshi that we have already partnered with for many years and sent our students for secondary school in the past... the founder of the school is a wonderful Tanzanian woman who is ready to retire and wants to sell the school to someone who will keep her school's former mission alive and make sure it continues to serve children for generations to come.
For years, we've faced the challenge of finding a secondary school where our Uru Community Pre and Primary School students would attend when they graduated their final year P7 with us. We wanted them to all stay together, and ensure that they would be safe, loved, and happy could thrive both academically and emotionally. Our goal has always been to ensure that our children transition from Uru Community Pre and Primary School into a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment where we can continue to provide guidance and support.
We have dreamed of a secondary school where our students are free from corporal punishment, where children feel valued, supported, and encouraged to dream and where modern teaching methods and innovative programs exist to help prepare them for a bright future. Owning our own school will allow our organization to remain closely connected to our students, helping them grow in a healthy, supportive setting that fosters not only academic success but emotional well-being—something we have struggled to find in other institutions and has ultimately resulted in us “losing” kids from our programs through the years.
While the logistics of this project are still being finalized (in terms of the payment schedule/timeline for full purchase), we are starting with a few urgent improvements to create a supportive environment for our one students who will soon begin their secondary education.
Initial funds raised will help us:
• Enhance classrooms to promote better learning.
• Hire additional quality staff, including teachers and caretakers, to foster an excellent student experience.
• Invest in holistic student programs, including mentorship and extracurricular
activities.
There will be a MUCH LARGER fundraiser in the near future, but for now, this is a great start to help us get the little things ready for January. Once the sale is finalized, we will share photos and more details!!
How You Can Help:
This Giving Tuesday, we’re asking you to stand with us. Your donation, no matter the size, will directly impact the lives of children who are eager to learn, grow, and build a better future for themselves and their communities. Together, we can transform the narrative of education in Tanzania. Every child deserves the chance to learn, thrive, and achieve their dreams. With your help, we can make that a reality.
