The Northeast Face Shield Project
ABOUT THE NORTHEAST FACE SHIELD PROJECT
The Northeast Face Shield Project is a collection of volunteers who 3D print face shield parts, procure related supplies, collect, prepare, and distribute face shields to health care facilities throughout the Northeast. These face shields are desperately needed by health care workers who are fighting on the front lines to save the lives of others. We operate on a zero profit model with all labor being 100% donated and all contributions and other proceeds going solely to the materials and direct costs associated with the activities of our volunteers to enable the delivery of face shields to health care facilities.
Each 3D printed face shield head piece will come with 3 interchangeable clear protective covers that are made from PVC binding covers, and are individually bagged. We have chosen this simple design in order to maximize production at a time when these are desperately needed. This design was approved by the US National Institute of Health just a few days after we launched. It's a beautifully simplistic design that is cheap to produce and gets the job done.
We smashed through our initial funding goal of $10,000 in just 72 hours and we have now upped this goal to $25,000. We have added well over 100 volunteers and sourced all of the materials necessary to create 20,000 face shields, and we do not plan on stopping until widespread shortages are resolved. We will be donating the face shields free of charge to health care facilities in the states of New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Volunteers are primarily now working on printing the plastic head pieces and sending them to one of three regional collection points where they are packaged, boxed, and shipped out to health care facilities across the Northeast.
We hope to deliver 5,000 face shields by 4/15/2020 and then deliver 15,000 before the end of April, however we need more than just contributions, we need your help! We are also looking for volunteers who can 3D print the head piece, and volunteers to help collect, prepare, and deliver face shields throughout the Northeast.
