Negative Pressure, Positive Results - EXOVENT

Evolving yesterday’s proven technology to save lives today.

The worldwide COVID-19 pandemic is resulting in thousands of patients requiring help with their breathing caused by pneumonia.  Our increasing understanding of the particular type of pneumonia caused by the COVID-19 virus suggests that support with oxygen and non-invasive methods of ventilation provides the best treatment in many patients who have to be admitted to hospital.

This is where the Exovent Charity is helping, by partnering with industry professionals to develop breathing support devices that utilise Negative Pressure Ventilation therapy, just as the 'iron lung' did for the many patients who suffered in the polio epidemic during the first half of the 20th Century.

Negative Pressure Ventilation provides a number of benefits over the now standard Positive Pressure Ventilators that are in short supply. Focusing on the patient experience, with Negative Pressure Ventilation devices there is no requirement to intubate; to breath for the patient while they are sedated. The patient remains conscious, can eat, drink, and talk, and crucially give real-time feedback to the nursing staff.

The demand for devices which can deliver oxygen and help patients breathing is enormous and worldwide. Far more needs to be done as quickly as possible and that is why we need your support.

Our Team is composed of citizen scientists, medical clinicians, academics, public and private sector engineers, business professionals and manufacturers.  All of whom are donating their limited time when they can around their day jobs.  We really need to fund further product development, putting our theory into prototypes, and running trials on them.  This is not a cheap endeavour. Although we have been fortunate with the partners we have to date, to push development quicker and to more people we need funding.

As a registered charity Exovent will with your help have a further reach to promote the benefits of Negative Pressure Ventilation and help improve the patient experience for those with Covid-19, COPD, and similar such diseases.
