Mya Needs Your Help! Neglected Dog Needs Vet Bill Support

Meet four year old Chinese Creseted dog, Mya. Or as I’ve now dubbed her “Mya the Belle of Harewood.”
Last week I ran across a distressed landlord who posted on Facebook images of her suite that had been very damaged by a neglected dog.
I am a community nurse by profession and offered to go with her to see if the owner was okay. He was physically okay, but said he wanted to surrender his dog because he couldn’t look after her. I’ve attached photos, but be warned, they’re super gross. She hadn’t been outside in at least a month and the smell was horrendous. I could smell the stench from the parking lot when I drove up. Neighbours had been complaining, which is how the landlord got involved.
The owner and I had a good conversation and after seeing he was okay himself, reaching out to his family and the local health authority with his permission and ensuring he was adamant he wanted to give the dog away, I took Mya.
I thought I’d take her for the night and rehome her or give her to the shelter. But my kids and I quickly fell in love with her and she fits right in with us. I always figured we’d get a beautiful lab one day, but the universe works in mysterious ways some times.
Looking in her mouth, Mya’s teeth are completely rotted. She has some front teeth and very far back molars, but everything else is gone including her canines. She’s going to need multiple extractions. She needs to be spayed and has very lumpy mammary glands as can happen with unspayed dogs. Hopefully it’s just benign growths. I’m suspecting bloodwork before any surgeries can happen. Cha-Ching, cha-Ching, cha-Ching.
Although I am a nurse, I am a single parent and like with everyone else these days, I’m not exactly swimming around in money and I know it will be at least $3000 to get her health sorted out. I am humbly asking for your contribution.
These photos aren’t the best due to me having to wrestle her for photos, but gives you an idea. She’s morbidly obese - 3x the size she should be.
Because it’s the long weekend, I haven’t booked her into a vet yet, but am throwing this fundraiser together to reach out to ask for help get this girl sorted out.
We plan to use Departure Bay Vets and I will set up an account there on July 2 if people would like to contribute direct.
I’m getting Mya up on socials so people can follow along her journey and adventures. She is a very cute dog that people stop to giggle with… or at!
