Neglected senior Chow Chow

Chyna was rescued off the streets of Miami after a plea went across social media.

Chyna had been picked up by a Good Samaritan
but, then Chyna bit her young child requiring
stitches. The Good Samaritan blamed herself and not the dog. She said she has a very rambunctious Rottweiler that was irritating Chyna and Chyna
went to defend herself and her child was on the
floor in the middle. She wanted us to know that
this could have been prevented and she felt
responsible.

We found a local foster for Chyna. Chyna was
described as a doll and a sweetheart. She saw a
local vet in-south Florida that noted she had mild entropion but, did not suggest surgery because
her age was thought to be nine years old. Instead he prescribed eye ointments for comfort.

Chyna then bit again. This time a mobile groomer had her on the table and for some reason he
decided to clip her nails first and cut her nail too
short causing her to bleed and naturally, she bit
him.

Chyna’s foster was so in love with her that she
decided to adopt her. She openly admitted that
she had never had a closed face chow chow
before.

Chyna had been doing fine until the 3rd bite. Her adopter got off the couch right by where she was sleeping and Chyna bit her ankle. This was
assumed that she was startled.

The fourth bite was a similar situation where the adopter was walking by her in the area she
designated for Chyna and again the ankle.

Her adopted reached out to us because she didn’t know what to do or handle a chow that needs
special boundaries. She admitted she took on too much.

We didn’t want to euthanize Chyna until we got
to evaluate her. Going off the vets records we
thought Chyna was healthy and only needed
maintenance eye drops. WRONG.

After picking up Chyna it is very obvious to us
that she has a terrible elongated palette that is
causing her difficulty breathing. Please watch the video to the end to hear her gargle and choke to
breathe. Her eyesight is also very poor as we
watched her walk into multiple trees and fall in
the pool not once but, twice. ( We were right
there watching her ). On top of that she can
barely hear. If you yell loudly she can hear you
but, regular noise she does not hear at all. The
choking noise in the video at the end is from her
palete obstructing her breathing.

She has two appointments on February 25th to
see the ophthalmology specialist and the
respiratory specialist.  When Abel had to have
surgery he required a brow lift and he had
stenotic nares that had to be fixed. Chyna’s nares seem in good shape. Abel’s surgeries cost over
$6000.00 so I anticipate Chyna’s will be at least
$4k to $5k depending on what she needs.

I don’t think she is nine years old as previously
estimated. These surgeries will be crucial to save her life if we don’t want to euthanize her for the
biting and potentially hurting someone else.  She needs to have quality of life and I can assure you
as long as she is uncomfortable she will continue
to bite. Please help us to help her. We don’t just
give up on a dog because they bite. We look for
reasons behind the bite.

This is an unexpected expense as her former vet
never mentioned any breathing or hearing issues.

After her surgeries are completed she will be
fostered with one of our board members to see if she can be adopted into the right home that
understands this type of chow and is familiar with hearing and sight issues.

We need to raise ALL of the costs for these
surgeries. Please share this fundraiser and if you
can donate it will save her life, literally.
