We, the employees at Sendik's on Downer, a small grocery store on Milwaukee's East Side, are fighting for guaranteed paid sick leave.
Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, we've been made to choose between trying to help prevent the spread of the pandemic by staying home and having the ability to pay our bills and rent.
We went to management on Thursday, March 19th, with the request to guarantee sick leave for all employees should any of us contract symptoms over the next few weeks; they said they would not be able to do that. We’re still weighing our options right now, because we want to keep serving our community. In the meantime, we’d like to set up a fund to cover one or two of us for shifts in case anything happens.
