Windsor Locks - my name is Susan Reardon and my young son went to school with the kids from this family. I am working with the WLPD as well as our Social Services Department to help this family. Theresa is a single, hard-working, seriously ill mom needs the community's help. Though she has kept up on her bills while raising 3 teenage children. Her illness has progressed and she is now unable to work. The household maintenance has lapsed and the home has now been deemed uninhabitable. They are currently living in a motel with hopes of getting back into their home by the holidays. Our goal is to get the children back into a familiar environment In case something should happen to the mom. The older children will be of age soon and could keep the home to raise the younger sibling if the work can be completed quickly.
So instead of a quick rehab on this home. The home had to be completely stripped down to the bones due to some really bad water damage that was found in the home. Volunteers and funding needed to make this possible. We already have a list of folks willing to demo and put down new floors. As well as a local contractor who has donated kitchen cabinets. Any and all help is appreciated. I will give an update in a few days.
Update 10/17/17 : I would like you all to know that we have had a great volunteer turn out which is so appreciated. We have had offers from local painters, sheet rockers, plumbers, electricians, HVAC. Donating both time and equipment to help after the cleaning out the inside of this home. Over the next weeks we hope to begin putting things back in place. We are still looking for donations to help with the purchase of flooring, furniture, beds and general house hold items. If you can help with any small donation or by even sharing this gofundme page it is greatly appreciated. Our goal is to get them back in by Thanksgiving if possible. We are trying. We all want to give a huge thank you again to the men and woman who have put hours into this project and to the donors who are helping to make this project possible. This is a very over whelming situation for both the mom and the kids and they are all very thankful to those who have been able to help. We will keep you posted.
11/19 - update - the electrical and plumbing are finally done and we hope to have sheet rock up soon and then painting. We have to purchase a new bathroom and well as everything for inside of the home for kitchen, bath, living room and bedrooms. As you can imagine this takes a lot of money. Please help us get them back in by Christmas.
