What is happening?

In Nepal, a situation is unfolding that looks chillingly familiar. Covid-19 cases are skyrocketing, hospitals are overwhelmed, and the country is pleading for help from other nations. Nepal is now reporting about 20 daily Covid-19 cases per 100,000 people -- about the same number as India was reporting two weeks ago. Last weekend, 44% of Nepal's Covid tests came back positive, according to government figures quoted by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), as it warned of an impending crisis.

"What is happening in India right now is a horrifying preview of Nepal's future if we cannot contain this latest Covid surge that is claiming more lives by the minute," Nepal's Red Cross chairperson, Dr. Netra Prasad Timsina, said in a statement.

Why are we raising funds?

Medical service fees are very high for average Nepalese population. So, there is a dire need to provide medical supplies at the cheapest rate to reach all those who cannot afford medical treatment to survive. At Yeti Hospital & Research Center (YHRC), chairman Mr. Yagya Prasad Bajgain hopes to replenish oxygen tanks, ventilators, medical supplies, PPEs and add beds and medical professionals to cater for overflowing Covid patients.

Where will the funds go?

The funds will go to YHRC. In the first phase, YHRC will utilize the funds towards procuring PPEs, medical supplies, medical equipment, oxygen tanks, ventilators and paying medical bills for underprivileged patients who cannot pay their medical bills.
In the second phase, YHRC also plans to procure vaccine and make it available for free to general Nepalese population.

Other ways you can help is by sending medical supplies, medical equipment, oxygen tanks via chartered planes as all international flights are grounded. But, the border with India is open, so supplies can be sent from India to Nepal via ground transport.

Who is raising the funds?

My name is Utsav Bajgain, a resident in Seattle, Washington. Once i am able to raise funds, i will transfer funds directly to YHRC, which is run by its chairman and my father, Mr. Yagya Prasad Bajgain. YHRC will procure all the medical supplies locally from Nepal and India and possibly from China, as allowed via plane charters. We will exhibit full transparency of costs incurred by showing receipts of transactions.

Estimated costs:

Oxygen cylinder: NRS 5,000 (USD 45)
Ventilator: NRS 2,000,000 (USD 17,000)

Your donations and support will go a long way in bringing aid to those who are in dire need to save lives and also neutralize the adversity of this escalating Covid-19 crisis in Nepal.
