What is Oxfam's Journey to Nepal?

It is being part of Team Oxfam Australia, who help change lives in Nepal and take action against poverty.

I'll be visiting Oxfam projects and seeing how disaster relief has impacted this small country after the devestating earthquake in 2015.

There's a physical challenge too - I'll be spending 6 days trekking the unforgiving Annapurna region.

The challenge will take place between the 6th - 19th March, 2017

Why me?
Well, why not?

It is true that one person can make a difference in the lives of other people.

Not only is Oxfam's Journey to Nepal a fundraising challenge, it is also a physical challenge.... Challenge accepted!!

Having supported Oxfam with their fairtrade products and initiatives, I am keen to see this work first hand.  Oxfam assists millions of people who are living in poverty.  They help by providing the resources and support for families and individuals in over 90 countries across the world.  Oxfam would prefer to give someone a hand up, rather than a hand out.

I am passionate about making a difference in people's lives.  By taking a trip to Nepal and seeing the work with my own eyes will truly be a lifechanging experience.

About Oxfam's work in Nepal:
An estimated 8 million people — more than a quarter of the population — were affected by the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake which rocked Nepal in April 2015. Oxfam began providing aid to those worst affected within hours of the first earthquake and has now moved into long-term recovery, working hard to make sure people have access to clean water and sanitation, shelter, food and a way to earn money in the future. The funds raised through this incredible challenge will help Oxfam Australia continue their lifesaving work helping the people of Nepal to recover from the devastating earthquake and preparing people for future disasters and conflict around the world.

How you can help:
My aim is to raise $10,000.  Crazy? Yep! Possible? Yep!  However I need your help.  The majority of money raised will be a direct donation to Oxfam.  A small portion of the funds raised will go towards travel expenses and gear required to complete the trek.  This is far more than the required amount to be raised.  If it's going to be done, then it's going to be done above and beyond!!

I know it's a huge ask for you to support me.  If you know me personally, you know that I can be trusted and I do not take your donation lightly.  If you do not know me personally, then the fact that you have read this far speaks volumes about you - that you too are passionate to see change.  Thank you.

If you cannot make a monetary donation, then you can help by sharing this page.  In the coming months there will be many opportunities for you to get involved.  I will be raising funds through a number of events.  If you, or someone you knows may be able to assist - please contact me.  Maybe there are some goods or services that can be donated, or you are willing to donate your time.

Here are some examples of what your donation can provide:

$49 can provide an emergency hygiene kit which contains items such as soap, blankets, underwear and basic toiletries.

$99 can provide eleven families with life-saving water kits that contain jerry cans and water disinfection material.

$120 will go towards building temporary latrines that will prevent the spread of disease and provide dignity.

My commitment to you:
For each person who donates to this cause, regardless of the amount, I will carry your name with me during my trip to Nepal.

For donations over $250 I will bring you back a small gift from Nepal.

Every person will be asked if you would like to receive regular email updates from me regarding the journey - the journey which begins now!

Some final thoughts to ponder:
- Thank you for reading this far  :)
- I appreciate YOU
- YOU can be a part of changing someone's life!
- No donation is too small or insignificant
- Please consider sharing this page
- I will need to tackle 3,767 steps on the first day of the trek - if I can get $3 donated for each step, then this target will be smashed!
- Oxfam Australia; the people of Nepal and I all thank you for your support.
