Neuron Forest
Donation protected
Hello, my name is Katie Caron and I am a Denver-based artist creating a site-specific installation titled "Neuron Forest" for the University of Colorado's Center for Bioethics and Humanities. Working in collaboration with the University of Colorado's neuroanatomist Professor Maureen Stabio, I will create an immersive experience representing a large-scale section of the optic nerve using fiberglass, tree branches and video projection mapping. Viewers will have the opportunity to photo trace a real neuron and 3D print the form.
I have always been compelled to create work inspired by the nature’s geometries, specifically the self-similar branching fractals in our brains: neurons. I am struck by their visual movement, how they creep as they change form and communicate through neural pathways. These neural circuits interconnect to one another to form a large-scale brain network, creating human consciousness, identity, life as we know it.
Your funding support will enable me to complete the project on time for the September 2022 opening. The project will educate and inspire students, faculty and the public about the nature and function of neurons. While I have received generous financial support from the University of Colorado, I am in need of further funding to realize the project.
Your funding will support the following areas below:
- Materials
- Fabrication
- Labor costs
- Technology
- Child care
- Studio rent
- Transporation
- Storage
- Installation
Giving incentives:
- $25-$50 will receive a 4" x 6" original laser etched print from the project.
- $100-$400 will receive a 8" x 10" original laser etched print from the project.
- $500-$1000 will receive a 20" x 32" original laser etched print from the project.
- over $1000 will receive an original artwork from the exhibition
