Nevada Artist with MS and Cancer
You may have seen me on Vegas PBS' Outdoor Nevada or on Clark County Television's Along the Way with David Burt . I am Suzanne Hackett-Morgan, artist and founder of the Goldwell Open Air Museum , a 15-acre outdoor sculpture park near the ghost town of Rhyolite, Nevada.
I was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2012, effectively ending my 33-year career in arts and culture. I have been on Social Security disability ever since. I continued to work as a Nevada Circuit Rider through the Nevada Arts Council as I could, helping nonprofits across the state from Las Vegas to outlying rural communities.
This year in March 2018, I was diagnosed with breast cancer and have begun treatment, including a lumpectomy in April, on my birthday no less, and planned chemotherapy and radiation beginning in June 2018.
No one plans to get sick, and financially this latest diagnosis has really caught me and my family off guard. We are concerned about our ability to manage the medical costs of treatment in the near future, and about my ability to effectively find a stable organization or individual to take over the care and management of Goldwell going forward.
Our situation is urgent. If you can help us, we will be very grateful and I am working on a way to compensate our top donors with original works of art, from either me and/or my husband Charles Morgan. I will be adding images of available works here soon. Inthe meantime, you can check out our website:
