Nevin's Circle of Love

My name is Ross Bevin, a good friend of Nevin in SMA. Kay Wigglesworth has asked me to set up and administer this Go Fund Me under my account. She has written the introduction below.

We are sending out this urgent message to Nevin Hedley’s Facebook and Circle of Love friends on behalf of Arden O’Rourke whose family is friends with Nevin. Arden is attempting to set up some much needed care assistance for Nevin.

As you may or may not be aware, Nevin became critically ill while traveling in France in mid May. He was found unconscious in his room by the house manager. He was rushed to the hospital via ambulance in extremely critical condition. The doctors found he had a bacterial infection which was destroying his hearts mitral valve. The doctors say this began when Nevins heart valve, which was replaced three years ago in New York, was now being invaded by the streptococcus bacteria and causing his body to reject the valve.

The doctors performed a very long surgery and replaced the mitral valve with an ox’s valve(?). Nevin was making progress after the surgery but then encountered complications and was found unconscious in his hospital bed a few weeks after his operation. He was transferred back to the infectious disease ICU unit and placed in a coma on a ventilator. At this point the doctors advised to be prepared for the worst.

Fortunately, Nevin rallied once more and was able to come off the ventilator. He is, once again, beginning his long road to recovery but has become depressed after this two month ordeal and is giving up hope.

Thankfully upon learning of Nevins condition, his dear friend, Ruth Hayward, from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico flew over to be at his side. Another friend, Deborah Greenaway, who is currently living in Spain and speaks French also flew over for a few days to assist. Unfortunately, Ruth at 85 years young and after almost 2 months in France, has become overwhelmed with Nevins situation and has been advised to rest. Ruth is ready to return to San Miguel de Allende.

Jay Francis is another friend of Nevins He is a retired nurse and has volunteered to replace Ruth and assist in Nevins care. Jay is willing to help Nevin any way he can and to show our appreciation, we would like to provide Jay with some financial assistance to help with travel, lodging and the food expenses he will incur while assisting with care for Nevin in France.

We are sending this message to all of Nevins Facebook and Circle of Love friends. While we do know many of Nevins wonderful friends, there are many of you we do not know. So we hope this message does not impose or offend. Please be assured your contribution will be refunded in its entirety in the unlikely event Jay does not go to France.
