New Church Building for University Hills Lutheran
Tax deductible
Who we are:
University Hills Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod in southeast Denver. We have been part of the University Hills community for seventy years since the 1884 Osner dairy barn at 4949 E. Eastman Ave. was first purchased and remodeled into a church in 1952. The following year a day school was begun which served students and families in the area for fifty-four years.
Our mission:
University Hills Lutheran Church exists to spread the love of God and connect people to Jesus Christ who came to bring salvation to everyone by his death and resurrection. Our church is a community of forgiven sinners who gather together for worship, Bible study, Sunday School, fellowship, summer Vacation Bible School, service to the community, etc.
Our need:
In 2005 the congregation began renting space to RISE School of Denver. This non-profit offers preschool services to all children, including children with developmental disabilities. In 2018, the church sold half its property to RISE School of Denver. It was intended that this sale would fund a complete remodel of the original building into a new sanctuary for the church. However, due to its age and construction, the cost of remodeling put the project out of reach. In order to remain within our available funds, it was decided that the old building would have to be razed and a new sanctuary constructed.
Plans for the project were developed and submitted to the building department of the city of Denver for review. However, changes required by the city have increased the cost of the project to a point beyond our available funds. Still, our small but dedicated congregation has agreed to go forward in faith with the construction of a new building, believing that God has work for us to do in the University Hills community.
Our goal:
Our goal is to raise $75,000 to offset the cash shortfall and help fund the construction of our new building. Through a special appeal, our congregation has pledged a similar amount in the hope of curbing the burden of a mortgage on our congregation.
We trust that God is working good as He promises, and that He has plans for University Hills Lutheran Church in mission and outreach to our community. Thank you for standing with us and for considering how you might help us reach our goal. God bless you richly!
