New Herefordshire Special School
Donation protected
At Mercia Learning, we have been helping children unable to attend school for various reasons to receive an education that meets their needs. We are very proud of what we have achieved so far, but we know we could do so much more!
We are therefore opening a new special school in Hereford for children with ASD, ADHD, anxiety, trauma and related diagnoses.
Currently, there is no specific provision for these children in Hereford. We estimate that there are about 300 to 400 children with ASD & ADHD in the county, many of whom are struggling in mainstream schools, sent to inappropriate specialist schools or being home-schooled. The need for a school of this type is acute, but our premises' physical limitations currently restrict us. We have discussed this issue with Herefordshire Council and they are fully behind our plans to open.
We have found an ideal property and have teamed up with a property investor who is buying the building on our behalf and will lease it to us.
We are fundraising for the money to renovate and equip the school. We are grateful for any cash received at all, or you can purchase an item for us from this wish list:
Alternatively, we will be happy to receive classroom sponsorship, and then we would name the classroom after the sponsor.
We are also looking for people to help us with the renovation, for example, landscape gardeners, plumbers, electricians, painters and decorators. If you can't give money but can give your time, please contact us on [email redacted].uk
When we open the school we will have space to take 30 children, aged 7 to 18, and offer them an education that will help them realise their full potential. We hope to be ready for our first students in January 2023.
