NEW JERSEY WOMENS SURF FILM "RIDING THE RHYTHMS"

Donation protected
We’re expanding the East Coast surf narrative,
Flowing with women who rip in the great state of New Jersey,
Riding the rhythms of nature through all 4 seasons.

“RIDING THE RHYTHMS”
Most people would say there are four seasons in New Jersey.
But there are so many more than that.
We have fiery seasons, quiet seasons, expansive seasons,
adventurous seasons, swell seasons... and we flow with them all.

We don't expect our gardens to flourish all year. We don't expect waves every day. But, when we work with the energy of the season, we get absolute magic here.

OUR PLAN

WHAT: The first surf film highlighting women filming solely in New Jersey.

HOW: Travel to different NJ locations. Invite women to come play with us -- surf, skate, snowboard, goof around. Repeat.

WHY: We really truly respect the sh!t out of all of the dudes surfing really heavy shore break at most east coast surf premieres, but we’re ready to see some women on the screen.
We ride and play year round and it’s seriously unhighlighted. Women have a unique bond with water, waves, nature, and our experience pushing our bodies on boards.
We want to inspire more people to participate in board sports, get outside and off their screens, and receive the medicine of nature!

STYLE: Fly on the wall with mix of interviews
SHOOT DATES: 9 months, October '22 - June ’23
DELIVERY: Approx. 20 min docu lifestyle film

THE WOMEN

MARGAUX
Producer, Director
I am a Southern California bred water baby recently transplanted to the East Coast. The past couple of years brought major life transformation for me. After months of tirelessly trying to save my botanical brewery in Los Angeles, ultimately I lost the business to COVID. With the desire to change up my environment and find fresh direction I packed up and drove across the country to stay near family in NJ.

Fueled by my passion for earth activism, I once again I found myself risking it all to launch a new company. In late 2021 I founded Wave Maiden, an eco surf wax made with 100% organic and biodegradable plant oils, resins, and essential oils. My new company and new life on the east coast brought me friends, community, and opportunities to live in a loving and respectful relationship with Mother Earth I didn't know I could find here.

I reflected on the duality of warm/cold months and how it affects the vibrancy of our adventurous life here. I tried winter surfing for the first time and cried trying to get my wetsuit off. I met incredible women — strong, inclusive, and brave. I knew I wanted to share this misunderstood place with the world and support the representation of women in board sports here.

In my free time I enjoy studying regeneration, forest bathing, surfing baby waves, and tasting craft fermentations. In my past career life, I’ve worked as a production manager on commercials and independent films, as an event manager, brewer, and sommelier. Now, I identify as an entrepreneur, herbalist, and a Jersey Girl.

ALYSSA
Director of Photography, Editor
I am a full-time videographer and founder of Set Media where I create content to help brands grow through high quality video. I am self-educated in filmmaking, my love for photo and video started while traveling. Although I work in many different areas, my greatest passion is shooting surfing. I also work as a surf instructor and spend my free time surfing, editing, and traveling.

ALLIE
Ocean Grove, NJ
Allie is a freelance artist who grew up on the East coast of New Jersey. She focuses most of her work within multimedia and graphic designs. This past year she co-founded an event company called Space of Balance, focused on highlighting artists within the community, bringing multiple interactive elements together at once. In her free time she can be found scoping out fun waves or skating local parks.

AVA
Asbury Park, NJ
Ava is a Jersey shore based surfer who works in water tech and spends her free time surfing, making art, connecting with friends, and growing sprouts in her cabinet. Ava developed her abilities to see life as a web of interconnected systems in college while studying environmental science and sustainability. This education forever shaped her choices as a consumer and motivates her to increase awareness around human and environmental health. Her happy place is the ocean and she suffers from a chronic illness called the “travel bug” ;)

NICO
Oakhurst, NJ
In 2020 Nico became a full time beach girl when she moved to Monmouth County. She works as a marketing manager and part time spin and yoga instructor. She grew up snowboarding and doesn’t discriminate against a board sport- she also enjoys wake boarding, skating, split boarding and most of all, surfing.
