New Jerusalem Evangelistic Church Collapse
Tax deductible
The New Jerusalem Evangelistic Church, a Haitian-American congregation dedicated to spreading the gospel of salvation through Jesus Christ, had humble beginnings in a small home on the South Side of Chicago. After decades as a house church, God did the impossible and opened the door for us to purchase a new 24,000 square foot building to be a beacon of hope from the community.
A business center with career resources, a fellowship hall for those special life celebrations and a daycare to nurture the next generation were all just a few elements of our vision for this new space. However, that dream came crashing down this January when extreme snowfall in Chicago overburdened the building's roof, causing it to collapse.
We lost everything.
Before the Collapse
After the Collapse
Items that were already donated — chairs for the sanctuary, desks for our sterile processing class and books for our library — were all destroyed. But most of all, we lost the building — the future home of our church. After the initial collapse, we were notified that the small remaining portion will either fall or need to be demolished. What was first going to be a renovation has now turned into an even more costly complete demolition and construction project. We were shocked, devastated, and overwhelmed when we heard this news, but we know our God is in control.
We had faith in God when we started as a church in our pastor's living room, and we have faith now even though our expansion plan has collapsed upon itself. We invite you to be part of our journey and to please consider donating to the work that we want to do in Chicago and beyond.
Thank you and God bless you!
