We are raising seed funds for our innovative education program and summer camp! We are opening up opportunities for contributors to participate in creating and building the Project: Interstellar Command and Control Operations Center for our summer camp and year-round programs. Situated in Northern California, NewLand Camps is setting the mission concept, recruiting crew and settlers, and aiming for the stars! Year 2 of the five year plan begins March 1st, 2022!

All funds that you donate will be put directly towards creating educational programming and empowering youth to innovate, design, and create. We are committed to helping youth learn to use their powerful imaginations to create a future for themselves.

We are happy to receive anonymous or otherwise BTC and ETH donations at the addresses below as well! For large donations, please contact us at our email listed below.

Project: Interstellar

NewLand Camps is an educational non-profit organization with a goal of promoting a lifetime engagement with education through immersive programming. Our team did not select an easy task! We are aiming for integrating across demographics and socioeconomic classes to create innovative and immersive educational programming as we invite young people from across the globe to participate in settling a new land together. That means providing opportunities for fun, skill-building, education, social engagement and even academic learning, and for empowering our campers in creating their own movements and taking their ideas to the next level with support from the NLC community and communities beyond. The emphasis will be in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Media, and Environment (STEAM-E) - areas of skill and knowledge that have been identified as those that will be the most in demand in the future as they all relate to developing and applying skills and competencies for taking any ideas and bringing them to life.

Our flagship program will be centered around a summer camp aimed at providing programming to prepare youth and adults for the future. This flagship summer camp will be a number of one- to three- week sessions built around education through immersive simulation and role-play.

This setting involves campers taking on the roles of 'settlers', 'crew', and 'officers' on an interstellar exploratory mission. As camp begins, campers and crew will be transported to a new world which will be theirs to develop and watch grow. Not only will they learn STEM principles through play, they will learn necessary conceptual skills, crafting and production skills, mechanical skills, and programming skills with our specialists. They will become settlers, creating the government, policy, and culture of the Project: Interstellar summer camp.

An energetic crew of 'officers' and staff will take on the role of collaborative peer mentors for our campers, with a main objective of creating and facilitating programming, being excellent social-emotional role-models, and guiding settlers as they explore new frontiers. Design collaborations (project-based learning) and simulations (ROLE Model) will be the primary methods of helping settlers see how they can create an idea, shake out the kinks, and turn them into reality using the project-based method.

Concept to Creation:  Project-Based Education

Design collaborations will include settlers designing and building living spaces, recreational spaces, communal spaces, technology projects aimed at solving current, real-world issues. Later on, this will turn towards creating scalable products and services that campers will create and market themselves with consultation help from our team. These projects are intended to lead settlers into creating their own businesses. NLC staff will be there to support those campers who show potential and enthusiasm for creating their own businesses using community models of support that allow campers to maintain creative and capital control of their own businesses while offering advice, suggestions, partnerships in their local communities, and mentorship. As participants see their ideas come to life and become part of the enduring infrastructure of the camp itself, their attachment to camp is hoped to grow as they become valuable members of the NLC Community and the world community.

Between design projects, campers will be participating in games, programming, educational simulations, experiments, and other activities intended to maximize engagement and participation. This R.O.L.E. Model of education (Role-Oriented Learning Environment Model - Developed by Paul and Danielle Newland from EduLARP and Simu-learning design) has been growing over the past two decades at a faster and faster pace and research into this educational modality offers us evidence that the meaning participants form help them to connect to the value of learning and the application of science, math, technology, engineering, art, and media by eliminating the idea that education should be classroom- or academically oriented. Instead, the R.O.L.E. Model brings to life a fully integrated and realistic education process that helps people become lifetime learners who want to steer their own development. Emphasis on the Environment will be present in each activity and environmental impact reports and assessment are a part of each design collaboration and NLC's overall philosophy in being carbon negative and environmentally sustainable.

Throughout the process, community councils, consultation circles, and peer to peer relationships will support participant emotional and mental health needs. Our experienced crew will be ready with evidence-based approaches to wellness and programming that assists participants with practice in approaching and overcoming challenges in order to assist them in becoming challenge-competent instead of challenge-averse. In joining this year-round community, participants will also have peer connections available for the difficult times that life inevitably brings our way.

Whether participants want to become scientists, engineers, artists, computer programmers, builders and architects, mathematicians, business owners, mechanics, researchers, or explorers in their own right, the ROLE Model and NLC will support them along the way by creating an environment where they can practice these roles and following up throughout the year to integrate lessons learned by exploring how ideas and experiences apply to life outside of camp. Multi-year participants will see the fruit of their efforts and labor increase in value and become connected to community. Being part of design efforts from the brainstorming phase to the implementation and evaluation phase will be an invaluable demonstration for participants on how to be creators and contributors. NLC is about more than turning ideas into reality, we are about helping participants turn potential into practice.
