Ten years ago, working in conjunction with Detroit Hispanic Development Center, local dermatologists affiliated with Botsford Hospital decided to give back to the community in a profound way: to sponsor a free tattoo removal clinic for ex-gang members and ex-convicts looking to make positive changes in their lives.

Freedom Ink tattoo removal program helps former gang members leave stigma behind. Gang tattoos represent beliefs, symbolize the wearer’s membership, and are even used to record acts of violence or murder. Tattoos are most commonly given by one gang member to another.

When someone exits prison or jail, or chooses to leave a gang, it can cause isolation in the community and make it difficult to find jobs and transition back into society. Even if someone has exited a gang, most people have no way of removing the branded skin from their past.

Freedom Ink has served hundreds of clients with a donated laser. This laser is out of date and beyond repair. In order to continue this valuable service to the community, we need to update our laser. We need a device that will keep our patients safe, allow us to treat all skin types, and allow for a quicker removal process. If we are able to make the removal process quicker and safer, our clients will be able to get back on their feet and feel confident in their new role quicker.

Please consider supporting this amazing program. 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the purchase of a new laser.
