It has been 45 years since I was diagnosed with Osteo sarcoma at age 11. Family and friends were diagnosed too and my classmates grew up quickly as we journeyed together through chemo and above knee amputation. Regardless of outcome (mine was miraculous) no one ever does cancer alone. I am no exception. Every day I continue forward is a testimony to the love and support from everyone -family, friends, teachers, neighbors, church, medical professionals, God!
To continue to move forward, I ask your support again. Prosthetics are not considered "medically necessary." I must cover 20% of the cost. The newer limbs are wonderful but quite costly and even the modestly improved version for this ageing body is out of my reach. I have been without a prosthetic for 2+ years, my old one is unrrepairable and no longer fits because I have had two surgeries on my stump for painful neuromas grown over time. I am accommodating an aging back, knee, foot. I am hopeful to do the simple things again I was taking for granted: grocery shopping, laundry, household chores, snow shoveling(!!) all easier on two legs.
I have been prescribed an appropriate leg and must pay $2100 to have it fitted and made. I will need at least a payment plan for $2100 to take delivery of the completed prosthesis. Then I will need physical therapy and gait training to learn to put on this new type prosthesis and learn to walk again. Larry Connor, Medford basketball coach once told me to, "let others hold the door for you once in awhile. In receiving, you give others an opportunity, a gift, too." I didn't understand that at all in junior high. I learned. I am so appreciative of each of you. I know you walk with me every day! Any help you might offer to help me continue forward is greatly appreciated more than I can say! Thank you!
