A Steel Little Free Library Box at Peoria Carver
Donation protected
UPDATE: The steel we need is being quoted at around $400 so the cost might be higher than originally thought. Again, any extra money we receive will go to a re-dedication party for the kids in the neighborhood and for books. Thanks so much! - Stacy Hardin/Owner, Book Rack Used Books
Our Little Free Library at the Peoria Carver Center was damaged again, whether by vandalism or weather, we are not sure. After careful consideration and requests for us to please not remove a LFL from this location, we have decided to put up a box that is made out of steel so that it will be very difficult to destroy.
We have found a local person to build the steel box; it will require quite a bit of steel. We believe that $500 will be enough to cover the cost but if it is less, we will take the extra money and purchase new books to put in the box*. If more than $500 is donated, then we will save that money in case of future damage/or for more books. *The books that were in it before were left out after the box was damaged and ruined by rain. We will do a new dedication for the LFL and invite the kids in the neighborhood to come and, if we have enough extra money, we will give them all a book to get them started with the "Take a Book, Leave a Book".
Most people have asked us not to let evil prevail and to put the box back up again; others have said to forget it and take it down. One girl commented that this is how she gets books for her babies. That one comment alone is enough to make us keep putting this box up again and again.
