New Marching Uniforms For Parkrose High School

The Parkrose School District is in the middle of a small, highly diverse neighborhood in Portland, OR. Our students are eager to learn, and our community is strong and supportive of their education.

 

The Parkrose Band Program offers students a hands-on experience that teaches the basic performance skills needed to play in school instrumental ensembles and marching band. Participation in the band program develops musicianship, fosters creative thinking, requires seamless teamwork, and provides students with a means of self-expression. Students display their progress at performances throughout the year, including at concerts, sporting events, assemblies, and at festival competitions.

 

The current marching uniforms Parkrose High School has were purchased, used, in 2009. We do not know how old the uniforms were when we bought them, but we are using them for our 13th year in 2022. While they still may look fine from a distance, the uniforms are showing serious wear and have needed a lot of TLC and repairs to keep them going for the past few years.

 

Like most schools right now, we are trying to recover from the toll that Covid took on our program. We are trying to give students something new and exciting that won't just affect them, but future band students for years to come. Our current uniforms consist of heavy materials that restrict movements and make them difficult to alter. They are also dry clean only. New uniforms are made from lightweight materials that allow students to move more freely. They are machine washable to help avoid expensive dry cleaning bills. They have built-in features to help with alterations, like snaps to quickly hem pants and jacket sleeves.

 

We are looking to purchase 150 uniforms to start. Each uniform costs $330 per student, putting the total cost at $49,500 to purchase.

 

These uniforms will mean a lot to our wonderful students, parents, and community that have been through so much over the last two years and will help to grow our program back.
