The New Oxford Chess Team – National qualifiers

The New Oxford Chess Team has had a stellar 2023 season. The team hosts a variety of abilities, ages, and skill levels who spend countless hours practicing, studying, and learning new strategies.

This past weekend, after nearly 20 hours of chess, the team’s hard work paid off as they secured a 3rd place spot in the State, with several team members placing in the top 3 of their division. This amazing feat qualified them to compete in the National High School Chess Championship on March 31 - April 2 in Washington DC. This surprising and unexpected advancement leaves them scrambling for funds and just two weeks to raise nearly every cent. Expected costs for the 20-member team is approximately $11,500.

We are used to supporting our community through student sporting events, but how rare an opportunity to support something so unique! Having a school that excels in so many areas is wonderful, and this is a new area!

**UPDATE: thank you to everyone who supported this campaign, along with other donations, the team was able to bring in the funds needed so all members of this team were able to attend Nationals. The kids had a fantastic time and walked away with the first place award in their category. We cannot thank you enough for helping to make this happen.
