New public restrooms The Robin's Egg Northfield
Donation protected
Hi, Devin and Erin welcome you. Thank you for visiting our fundraiser. The Quality bakery has been a staple of downtown Northfield since 1949. It was a bakery by another name even before that opening in the 1870s. It is believed to be the oldest operating bakery facility in the State of Minnesota.
We acquired the bakery at 410 and 412 Division st S, in September of 2023 after the passing of Sue Ouimette (Daughter of Ed Klinkhammer who started the Quailty Bakery).
We were able to open one side of the structure after a few months of renovation and operate under a TOGO only model of 300 sqft for the public. State law requires two public restrooms for any seating or dining in. We would like to open the 412 side of the bakery to the public and finish the historical renovation as we move to a full breakfast menu.
Up to this point we have funded this project ourselves out of pocket and with personal loans. The construction costs of the bathrooms and the reopening of the dining room are estimated to cost over $30,000. While we have been planning to save for this, the process has been very slow and other unanticipated expenses have come up such as shoring up a section of the foundation ($20,000) and major plumbing repairs.
Without funding assistance we do not anticipate being able to complete the bathroom project until sometime in 2025 at the earliest. We would like to see it open sooner and not have a vacant store front for another 2 years in the historic district.
We believe there is a need for more public restrooms in the downtown area and would like see these become a reality sooner than later. These will serve everyone who needs them in the downtown area. This is why we are asking for the communities help.
