New STEM-Training Program: SMART Academic Services

Welcome to SMART Academic Services:

Hello, Our names are Dr. Gloria Barber and Ms. Rena Hill. We are two geeky African-American former engineers, business professionals, and leaders from the Aerospace, manufacturing, and various industries. One retired, one not! In January 2022, after exploring the need to give back by helping the youth in our communities, we started a STEM-based training program in Central Florida called Smart Academic Services (or SMART Academy). We need your help to launch and keep the program alive and funded with STEM kits and teachers!

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.

 

Our primary goal is to help the next generation's up-and-coming leaders by teaching children from historically excluded communities. STEM is one area our youth continue to fall behind their peers in achieving parity. As a result, many youths lack the ability to catch up technically or to aspire to more technically challenging careers or vocations, to compete for higher-paying jobs. We need to bridge this gap by offering meaningful learning experiences in robotics, software coding, computer science, engineering, and participating in science-based field trips. As our students learn to build circuit cards, electronics, and games while exploring the fascinating world of robotics.

 

Why do your donations matter? We need your help to make this program a reality by helping us purchase STEM kits, tools, and supplies from qualified vendors, plus compete at science fairs, sponsor field trips, and diverse learning experiences. Hiring qualified STEM teachers and engineers to teach this process and curriculum is vital to knowledge integration and sharing lived experiences.
