The purpose of this video is to give hope through a brief version of my testimony of how I went from drug dealer, to drug addict, and finally became a drug counselor. My goal is to raise money for a sober living house.
I am a person who comes from a family dynamic that has had struggles with addiction. As an adolescent I began to experiment with and sell drugs. Starting at the age of 13 I went to multiple group homes, juvenile centers and eventually prison for the first time at the age of 18. I went to prison for a second time in 2009 for drug possession. During that stay I began to realize my lifestyle was leading me nowhere, but I felt hopeless as if I had no way out.
My addiction raged on for a few more years until I got sent to the Talbert House where I received substance abuse treatment over incarceration. During my treatment stay I received clinical care, was introduced to the 12-step community, and started down a spiritual path. Upon graduation I went to a sober living house where I learned the skills I needed to put my life in order and restore my family. Eventually after 20 months I moved out and started working at a local treatment center due to my desire to give back what was so freely given to me. While there I was influenced by the education of my peers and decided to go to college to become a substance abuse counselor.
So, today I stand here with 7 years clean and sober, my family restored, a college graduate, and now I am a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor. My message is that there is hope. Due to my personal experience trapped in this lifestyle I fully understand how hard it can be for the suffering addict and their family. However, I know the way out. If I can go from a career criminal and heroin addict to where I am today so can your friends and family members who are struggling with addiction. I believe it’s my life purpose to help people in recovery reach their fullest potential.
My goal is to start a sober living home called New Vision Transitional Living that can provide people with the same opportunities I had. We will work collaboratively with local treatment centers, homeless shelters, jails, the 12-step community, and Churches to assist others in reaching their sobriety goals. The house will be ran by making available on-site clinical support, 12-step support, and spiritual support. Just like I and many others in my network have had that enabled us to get where we are today. Clean and sober living productive lives.
This is where I need your help.
I started repairing my credit a few years ago as part of my recovery process. I recently reached out to a mortgage lender to get pre-approved for a loan to purchase a property. I have met all requirements of pre-approval except the down payment. So, I am hoping to raise 10,000 dollars towards a property valuing between 100 and 120,000 dollars. Once we secure the property the house will be fully sustainable by the residents and will even provide additional resources to grow the mission. If this is a cause you feel compelled to contribute to please donate to my Go Fund Me account. All funds will be used transparently being made available to the public throughout the process. Any amount of support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance!
