New West Eagles Youth Basketball Program

Hi, my name is Francis Yee, founder and Coach of the New West Eagles youth basketball program. Last year my sons and I created this team because there were not a lot of opportunities to play organized indoor basketball coming out of Covid.

Our inaugural year was a great success. The team entered several tournaments which gave the boys an opportunity to play against competition around the Province. In addition, we held a few team events where the players bonded and had fun.

To fund the team last year, we worked really hard to secure several generous corporate sponsors like McDonalds, Wesgroup, Westminster Toyota, and TD Bank. This was a huge help, although the team did run a deficit still.

For the upcoming season, again we are hitting the pavement hard to get community support. This will be especially important as we have a bunch of new players who heard about our program from last year and wanted to get in on the fun. We also are looking to add more tournaments and potentially an out-of-town event. Registration fees at tournaments have generally increased to about $650+ per event.

Your contribution would go towards costs such as tournament fees, gym facilty rentals, equipment, travel costs, team attire, prizes and team events. And you get a deal on my coaching and management salary (zero)!

We feel this program not only teaches basketball skills and strategies, but also instills qualities such as teamwork, perseverance, respect, and goal-oriented mindsets - all great things to learn for basketball, family, school and beyond.

Of course, we know there are certainly other worthy causes out there. So thank you so much for your time and consideration. If you are interested in contributing, there is no time to waste though because our season kicks off at the BC Senior Boys Provincial Championships on March 11, where our team will learn what good fundamental team basketball looks like from the big boys.
