“NEW DOGS, OLD TRICKS”
Written By Candice Cain
A Half-hour Series
Fraternity boys. Sorority girls. Feminists. Slackers.
The guy that hit on every girl possible until he scored.
The trustworthy bartender that was every student’s big brother.
The pretty one.
The smart one.
…And then there’s the ho.
So…. Who were you in college?
“New Dogs, Old Tricks” is a new half-hour series that follows the very realistic, very funny and very relatable lives of Danny Barker and Sarah Dawson- a new couple trying to navigate through college while dealing with surrounding conflicts of classes, social lives and other responsibilities to make it into true adult life in one piece.
It’s a series for a group that really doesn’t have any shows that they can relate to right now: Millennials. It’s a series that lets them know that all of the choices that they make in college about friends, relationships, work and school will form them as an adult—and it’s okay to make mistakes along the way. It’s a series that says that they need to enjoy college – mistakes and all – because you don’t want to have any regrets.
And it’s a series for adults, who see their former selves in the characters and the situations of the show, and reminds them of their college days. The universal situations and relatable characters will make them reminisce about their own antics as they were finding their way into adulthood—Hence the title, “New Dogs, Old Tricks.” After all, we all go through the same trials and tribulations of life as we grow up. It’s just different people at a different time.
Every episode will follow the lives of Danny Barker – an All-American fraternity brother of Gamma Pi Omicron – and his girlfriend Sarah Dawson – an independent college co-ed filled with morals and responsibility – as they deal with their friends, classes, work and all other situations that pop up around them.
Actors in the series include David Otunga , Clayton Snyder , Alix Kermes , Cody Calafiore , Shelley Regner , Brian Tyler Cohen , Austin Davis , Diana Durango , Natasha Coppola-Shalom , Joseph Bruno , Stephanie Katz , Ashley Brinkman , David Eggers II , Jessie Godderz , Pressly Coker , Matthew Kranyak , Robert Peterpaul , Andrew Rogers and Stink Fisher . There are lots of other actors - seasoned vets and rising stars - that will appear throughout the first season.
There hasn't been a season like this in a LONG time. Spun off from the feature film What Happened Last Night , which will be distributed by GVN Releasing through Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on February 7, 2017, New Dogs, Old Tricks has staying power because of its broad appeal. Several networks are already interested in the series, but we really want to maintain control of what happens with the series and all of the characters.
Thus, we are running a GoFundMe in conjunction with getting traditional investors. There are 12 episodes that we want to film. We have a solid cast and crew. We are ready to go-- Once we have our funding!
Here's the cool thing... Candice Cain, President of Gemelli Films, enters her projects in literally everything she can in order to bring attention to the people that work so hard. Her film What Happened Last Night is on the shortlist for the Oscars in the categories of "Best Original Film" and "Best Picture." The four songs in Oscar contention, done by independent artists, have been recognized in articles in Entertainment Weekly, Variety and others publications. She fully intends to submit every episode for the big awards, including the Emmy Awards and the Golden Globes. Everyone that is involved in this project will be a part of the excitement that surrounds Awards Season and smaller festivals. While a nomination isn't guaranteed, inclusion certainly is.
We would like to film the second episode the last week in January on Long Island. We do not need the entire $864,000 for the next episode-- That's the entire season as a whole. We already have the first episode in post-production with GVP Digital Media. We have each episode broken down into single budgets. Once we raise enough for the budget of the next episode, we will film. Of course, it would be best to shoot all episodes at once-- But we're all chomping at the bit to get this done ASAP!
Please note that we created reward levels that we felt would get us our funding the fastest. If there is something that you would want, chances are we will be able to work something out for you. So, shoot us a message before contributing and let's talk about what you want as a reward and what you are willing to contribute to get it.
This is a unique opportunity to be involved in a television series from the ground up. It means a lot to us, especially since we've got an all-female production team. We want to show everyone that people that work together in little bits can get BIG things done.
THANK YOU!!!
