I’m 16, and I have chosen Sierra Olsen, City Clerk for Newell, Iowa, as the beneficiary on behalf of the City of Newell for my park rehab project.

Remember being a kid and swimming in the summer? If you are anything like me, then rest break or after swimming, you would be playing stickball on the tennis courts or shooting hoops with your friends. So, what if YOU were able to help restore facilities for a whole new generation to enjoy? Here’s your chance to help get kids off of gadgets to create the same outdoor memories from your childhood!!!!

GOAL: To create a public/private venture for the betterment of the Newell City Park by obtaining two new regulation size basketball backboards AND to resurface the existing courts.

This initiative is in conjunction with the Bethel Baptist Church Youth Group, by Austin Walsh, to partner with the City of Newell, an anonymous non-profit, local businesses, AND YOU.

Before my freshman year of high school, I had asked my dad how getting the city tennis court upgraded could be done. He told me that when the timing was right that I could help out my community. My objective was to create an action plan to do the following: 1) speak to the Mayor and City Council for approval of the project 2) to obtain funds for matching donations 3) to reach out to GOALSETTER 4) to recruit volunteers to solicit donations for matching funds.

The total project is estimated to cost $30,000.00. This is comprised of two MVP basketball goal systems (approximately $3,800 each) and the remaining amount would be needed to resurface. The basketball hoops will be acrylic backboards with double-static rims by Goalsetter, which makes these in the State of Iowa, AND the City of Newell will arrange the resurfacing by SurfacePro.

The idea is to seek matching funds for the $10,000.00 that I have already secured from a Non-Profit Corporation and one other donor. The City of Newell has agreed to match $10,000.00 that I raise. I am hoping that you can help me raise the $10,000.00. Your donation would be a tax deductible gift to the City of Newell.

I also hope to upgrade the tennis court net, have bases for stick ball, and get two pickle ball courts incorporated into the tennis courts. (If there are any additional funds raised, it will go to the upcoming City projects: Splashpad, stand -alone pickle ball court, and/or rehabilitation of the town baseball/softball field.)
