Hi,
My name is Chauncy & I am a business owner & person in long-term Recovery.
I have decided to dedicate my life since 2017 to helping others just like me who have battled and are STILL battling the ongoing epidemic of addiction, including untreated mental health issues, homelessness, and all forms of trauma that come along with Substance Abuse Disorder & co-occurring issues.
For 21 yrs I struggled to stay clean and sober and was unable to until I finally made a decision to get some help after becoming chronically homeless, desperate, and suicidal times.
I left my community on a mountain bike I had found near a "trap-house" in Lima, Ohio and ultimately ended up in Louisville, Kentucky where I started my journey in Recovery in 2015 courtesy of The Men's Healing Place, plenty of strong support from people like me, and big hearted individuals.
My willingness played a big part in my journey but an even bigger part was the support from various organizations and people that helped guide me to a better life.
Since getting and staying clean on October 13th 2016, I have become a Certified Peer Supporter (2017-Present), Outreach coordinator/ participater, Emergency Room Peer Supporter for a treatment facility, Smart Justice Advocate, organiser for presentations on fatherhood, small business owner, and not to mention an ACTIVE father myself now after being accepted back into their lives.
My initial focus and mission for NEXT CHAPTER RENTAL HOMES & PROPERTY MANAGEMENT LLC was to provide housing mainly for qualified individuals with criminal records (usually directly related to addiction issues) who are constantly being discriminated against by landlords.
While my mission on that is still clear, I simply WILL NOT leave out the fact that poor sober living options and conditions are also an ongoing issue.
I want our people to feel some kind of dignity while staying with us. The days of having to relay on a slum lord for shelter will be over on Next Chapter's watch!!
I am exhausting all resources to help in my mission to get these sober living houses up and running to serve our community.
Just beds alone (that I've found so far) are an average of 210.00-300.00 per set depending on the brand and quality.
And yet there's so much more pieces of furniture that go into a home with multiple guests!
This will just scratch the surface but I'm living proof of what GOD can do and my faith won't stop with him moving this mountain either!
I am walking, talking, and living proof that successful reentry is absolutely possible with the ongoing support and love from the community and societies that welcome us back!
