Support for Mike Vernola's funeral
Donation protected
Michael John Vernola was a son, a nephew, a friend, and a Marine. He had a huge heart. Michael felt things deeply, loved unconditionally, and always tried to see the best in people. He is gone from us way too soon.
Michael tragically passed away on September 6, 2018, from an accidental overdose. In his short thirty-two years, he battled his drug addiction several times. In the end, his body just couldn't rebound. We are all shocked and saddened by this sudden loss.
He is survived by his devoted mother, Patricia DeVirgiliis. In the months prior to his death, Michael & Pat had experienced intermittent homelessness and the tragedy of losing Rachel Teplinsky, Michael's longtime girlfriend. They were trying to get back on their feet when the unthinkable occurred. Patricia would like to give Michael a respectable burial, but the costs do so are high (even for a simple burial) and funds are currently non-existent.
Any money raised through his GoFundMe will go directly to the cost of a simple and respectful burial for Michael. Any leftover funds, should any exist, will go to getting Pat back on her feet and moving forward. This account is administrated and maintained by Michael's aunt, Marianne.
Any donation of any amount is greatly appreciated. If you have no funds to donate, of course, we understand. Times are tough all around. If you cannot donate, please share this fund on social media.
If you or someone you know is currently suffering and self-medicating, if you are addicted, please seek help. It's not easy to ask for and receive help, but it's the only way to health. NYC has many free and low-cost services for people with drug and/or alcohol problems.
