On Sept 14th Lori got that phone call that everyone fears. Get here as fast as you can she was told. Brian and Sadie had been in a bad accident. They would tell her nothing more. Brian suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spent the next 3 weeks in ICU in Rockford. Luckily Sadie faired much better with just a concussion and stitches. Hope was slowly renewed as Brian made progress and was discharged to home, but it was short lived as he developed a subdural hematoma and ended up in ICU in Peoria. This is when their greatest struggle would begin. He had one complication after another for the next 9 weeks in ICU! Finally, at last, he was cleared for his third shunt placement, and this one was successful. A week later he was discharged to a home he no longer even recognized, and had to try to learn how to do basic tasks all over again. While this has presented them with challenges beyond their wildest imagination, they have experienced the Lord’s faithfulness in ways like never before. One of those ways is through the tremendous outpouring of love and support from friends and family. For this they will be forever grateful. Many continue to ask how they can help. Prayers are most coveted, but if you desire to help in a more tangible way, we created this gofundme. Brian’s employer has been incredible at supporting them for the past six months by allowing them to keep his insurance, but it is clear that he will not be returning to his job, so that is now officially terminated. With the primary caregiver role landing on Lori, she has not been able to work for the past six months either. As reluctant as they were to accept the offer to create a gofundme, they agreed, knowing that it would be the only way to keep their insurance through cobra, and therefore be able to continue with the many ongoing Dr and therapy appts he needs. They’re told it could be another 9 months before disability hopefully is approved, so clearly the need is great.
