In the early morning of Sunday, February 6th, my dear friend Nahthanha, her husband, and their three kids lost her childhood home that they had poured the better part of a decade of hard work, blood, sweat, and tears into designing and renovating to a devastating fire. The house was completely lost, along with all of Nahthanha’s personal art collection of her one-of-a-kind paintings, her childhood memories and family heirlooms, and all other belongings within.
This comes on the heels of a truly devastating couple years for this family.
First, Nahthanha’s husband Chris sustained an injury which required him to be off work while awaiting surgery; a surgery which has been pushed and
pushed due to Covid and has resulted in him now being off work for 2 years.
Last year, the lockdowns and restrictions resulted in Nahthanha having to close her business, Make a Mess Art Studio, that she and the community loved so much. Not being able to open to the public meant no income, and she could no longer afford to keep the business open.
With the loss of the majority of their income, they made the tough decision to list this beloved home for sale and move to a smaller one to help gain some stability. While they’ve waited in the hopes that it would sell, they’ve been renting it on Airbnb in order to pay their mortgage.
Nahthanha also just listed the Make a Mess building for sale in order to make ends meet, and the loss of the Airbnb income while awaiting the sale has put them in a very dire situation.
Nahthanha has been working endlessly painting murals and anything else she can in order to make a living during all this. Their whole lives have been upheaved by this pandemic, and this fire puts an even bigger strain on their family.
I’ve started this GoFundMe in the hopes that we can help them to bridge the gap as they recover from this latest hit in a string of hard times, while they work to get back on their feet.
Nahthanha has been an integral part of the community who has provided happiness and beauty to it for many years. Not only that, she has also helped those in need wherever she can, from sponsoring families at Christmas to volunteering her time to various charities in the area. She is a truly wonderful and caring person. This family does not deserve what they’ve been through, and they could really use our help right now.
The proceeds will go directly the the Woods family to pay their bills, buy groceries, and survive as they figure out how to recover from this. Any little bit helps.
