NI Rowers off to World Champs Hong Kong!!

Hello family, friends, and supporters,

We are so excited to represent Belfast Boat Club, the province & Ireland at the World Coastal Rowing Championships in Hong Kong on November 1 - 3 in the Women's coxed quad event (CW4X+) 

We qualified our boat for the World Championships at the Irish Offshore Championships in September, finishing fastest Northern Ireland crew. Since then our crew have had recent International success, winning the Barcelona Skyline Regatta. We are currently seeded 1st Irish crew in our boat class for these World Coastal Rowing Championships this November.

OUR CREW

Our crew consists of 5 members. Larne Coastal rowers Joy McNeill and Lisa Lamont (who over the years have won numerous Irish titles in various categories including Senior Ladies) have teamed up with Belfast Rowers Sarah Quinn and Roisin Maguire (both athletes have represented Ireland at Home International Regattas) coxed by Ryan McNeill who is also from Larne and has over 15 experience both rowing and coxing. This is our first year rowing together as a crew but we have worked hard and are looking forward to see how we rank on the world stage. 

RACE

The World Coastal Rowing Championships will be raced in the harbour waters of Hong Kong.! Racing will involve a 4km semi-final and a 6km final each race includes a number of turns around buoys which adds to the excitement! Fortunately, we have advanced straight to the semi-finals, avoiding the primary heats. The event will have competitors from all levels, national champions right up to Olympic athletes. It will be a great experience and opportunity for us to see where we are ranked against some of the top international crews. As athletes we are very proud to be representing our local area and hope to be worthy ambassadors for our wee country.

This is a self funded event, so we could use any support you can give us! We are looking to raise approx. £1500 to help cover some of the cost of travel, accommodation, entry etc.
