Nice News’ October 2023 Cause of the Month
Tax deductible
With Indigenous Peoples’ Day approaching on October 9, Nice News wants to give readers an opportunity to support Native American communities around the country. As such, our October Cause of the Month is the First Nations Development Institute, which improves economic conditions for Native Americans through direct financial grants, technical assistance and training, and advocacy and policy.
First Nations was founded in 1980 and began its grantmaking program in 1993. Since then, the nonprofit has successfully managed 3,052 grants — totaling $64.7 million — for Native American projects and organizations in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and American Samoa. Those projects are spread across six key areas: stewarding Native lands; nourishing Native foods and health; advancing household and community asset-building strategies; strengthening tribal and community institutions; investing in Native youth; and achieving Native financial empowerment.
One hundred percent of the proceeds from this fundraiser will go directly to the First Nations Development Institute and furthering its mission to strengthen American Indian economies to support healthy Native communities.
