In support of Nicholas' family

I have set up this crowdfunder to offer support to Nicholas' wife, Paula Alvarez, in this very difficult time.

Nicholas Amayo had been ill for the last year with primary schlerosing cholangitis (PSC), a rare form of liver disease. His death comes as an enormous shock following the positive news a few weeks ago that Nicholas had been accepted onto the list for a liver transplant.

Nicholas was a trader at Seven Sisters Indoor Market (the Latin Village) for 15 years, where he played a key role in saving the Market for demolition and advancing the Community Plan. He was Deputy Chair of the Seven Sisters Market Tenants Association and a Founding Member and member of the Interim Board of the Wards Corner Community Benefit Society.

Through these roles and more generally, Nicholas played a major role in making the Market a welcoming and supportive place for all and in bringing the Community Plan closer to fruition. His calm, kind and open-heartened spirit was very much appreciated by all around him and will be greatly missed.

Nicholas and his wife Paula ran their money transfer business from Seven Sisters Indoor Market together. Without Nicholas, Paula and the rest of the family are struggling to keep the business staffed and open, especially right now in the immediate aftermath of his sudden death.

Many of us who knew Nicholas and greatly valued his contributions to the Market and Community Plan want to offer support to his family at this difficult time. Alongside others I’ve therefore set up this page to help Paula with funeral and everyday costs to ease some of the immediate pressure and worries over the next few months.

Nicholas Amayo había estado enfermo durante el último año con colangitis esclerosante primaria (CEP), una forma rara de enfermedad hepática. Su muerte supone una enorme conmoción tras la positiva noticia hace unas semanas de que Nicholas había sido aceptado en la lista para un trasplante de hígado.

Nicholas fue comerciante en Seven Sisters Indoor Market (el Latin Village) durante 15 años, donde desempeñó un papel clave a la hora de salvar el mercado para su demolición y promover el Plan Comunitario. Fue vicepresidente de la Asociación de Inquilinos de Seven Sisters Market y miembro fundador y miembro de la junta interina de Wards Corner Community Benefit Society.

A través de estos roles y de manera más general, Nicholas jugó un papel importante para hacer del Mercado un lugar acogedor y de apoyo para todos y para acercar el Plan Comunitario a su realización. Su espíritu tranquilo, amable y de corazón abierto fue muy apreciado por todos los que lo rodeaban y lo extrañaremos mucho.

Nicholas y su esposa Paula dirigían juntos su negocio de transferencia de dinero desde Seven Sisters Indoor Market. Sin Nicholas, Paula y el resto de la familia están luchando por mantener el negocio abierto y con personal, especialmente ahora, inmediatamente después de su repentina muerte.

Muchos de los que conocimos a Nicholas y valoramos mucho sus aportes al Plan de Mercado y Comunidad queremos ofrecer apoyo a su familia en este momento difícil. Por lo tanto, junto con otras personas, he creado esta página para ayudar a Paula con los costos del funeral y cotidianos para aliviar parte de la presión y las preocupaciones inmediatas durante los próximos meses.
