Nicholas Hanson medical & living expenses
Donation protected
I don't really know how to write a description for this... mostly because, like many others, I'm still shocked and heartbroken that it even happened.
Nicholas Hanson is a 21-year-old student at Texas State University. We were high school classmates who befriended each other since we were both in the school orchestra. His family (including his twin brother Joshua) is near and dear to me and many others in the San Marcos community.
On the morning of January 4, Nick was hit by a car while walking to work. Per his older brother Christopher:
"Nick is in a coma. [...] The neurosurgeon operated on him and removed a hematoma that was on his brain. They left the right side of his skull off to let his brain swell. He also broke his right arm. He will have a operation to reset his arm tomorrow.
"We have been told 'this is a marathon not a sprint.' They expect Nick to be in the hospital for at least a month. He will have extensive physical and neurological therapy in the future. Right now we are in a crucial window of survival before we plan his recovery."
Having been a 21-year-old hospital patient in the past myself (albeit for a much shorter period of time), the first things that came to mind when I read this update were how much everything was going to cost and how Nick and Josh were going to manage living expenses with Nick obviously unable to work for the foreseeable future. My hope is that the funds raised will help ease the financial burden of what is already such a difficult time for the Hansons.
If you aren't in a position to give financially, I humbly ask that you support spiritually instead and say a prayer for him, his family, and his medical staff. Anything - whether a generous financial contribution or a positive thought Nick's way - will be helpful and appreciated!
As a note for donors (since many donors understandably like to hear how their contribution is helping) - I plan to be judicious with sharing updates on here out of respect for the family's privacy. Please assume that no news is good news!
Thank you in advance for your generosity and support.
