Nick Conti

Nick, a healthy, vibrant 20 year old, was riding home on his motorcycle after enjoying a workout at the gym  and was involved in a head on collision. He was wearing a helmet and miraculously did not suffer head or spinal injuries. The impact did break his ribs, scapula, pelvis and arm, all which will heal in time. His arm had a compound fracture and they have already had surgery to repair it.  However, we recently learned something which is of much greater concern: one of the main arteries leading to his heart is torn. While most people with this type of injury would have died shortly after impact, because of his health and youth his body was able to form a life-saving clot. Ironically, this clot also blocks a significant amount of the blood flow to his heart, causing enough concern to delay the operation he needs to repair his pelvis. Nick is currently in ICU and is expected to be there for a while, as his recovery is going to be a long one.
