A legend needs our help… Accident in the Alps – June 2022
On the 14th June, while paragliding in the French Alps, veteran adventure pilot Nick Neynens experienced a collapse of his glider close to terrain and impacted heavily on a rock face, his reserve canopy not having time to deploy sufficiently. The accident has resulted in serious injuries, which have him immobilised and he is facing an unclear future… Nick has been hospitalised in France since the accident.
Who is Nick Neynens? To many Nick Neynens needs no introduction. Nick, whether he likes it or not, is a hero in the paragliding community and is a true legend of life. He has competed numerous times in the Red Bull X-alps – the toughest race on earth, held national record flights, explored corners of the earth most would only dare to dream of and yet he remains a kind, unique and humble fella.
Contribution to Paragliding
Nick is a true inspiration to pilots all over the world via his YouTube channel ‘Share My Joys’. https://www.facebook.com/sharemyjoys If you aren’t already familiar with ‘Share My Joys’ then please, put aside a couple of hours, grab a cold one (or two) or a coffee and enjoy some remarkable human achievement. Many established, developing and wannabe pilots, as well as non-flyers have come to know, to love and to respect Nick through his beautiful and prolific documentation of adventure paragliding. This production, Nick’s immeasurable contribution to the sport, has always carried humility, enthusiasm, humour and a love for this crazy world that we all share. Seeking adventure purely, independently and non commercially, he lives on his terms, asking little or nothing of others. His free spirit is deeply admired by and has impacted many. He is, in the truest sense, a legend of the paragliding pursuit.
Can you help? The idea of Nick asking for help is unfathomable to him and predictably he resisted the idea. After finally convincing him to accept financial support we are now setting up this GoFundMe campaign. We aim to raise funds so Nick can get home and live by his ethics of freedom and independence. Your contributions will go beyond the cost of emergency care and repatriation flights. We would love to raise enough money to assist him with living expenses while recuperating without an income, any specialised equipment he may require, adaptations required to his home, as well as therapy and care costs not covered by the health system.
Nick, his Mum and Xpyr supporter Andrew ‘Dobbo’ Dobinson plan on flying back to Brisbane, Australia very soon, where Nick will spend time in the PA hospital, while he, his family and medical team figure out the flight path for the future.
With friends everywhere and enemies nowhere, we are hopeful that we can raise a meaningful contribution to help Nick in this… a time of challenge & adversity. We thank you very much in advance, your support is enormously valuable, life changing and appreciated - Every contribution counts!
