Update: It is with much sadness that I share of Nick’s passing. He fought a hard fight. This family needs your support now more than ever. Please donate if you can. It would mean the world to Cheri and the family! ❤️

Hi my name is Deana Kenner. I have been a family friend of Nick & Cheri Saiz for decades. After watching them struggle through Nick’s ongoing medical conditions for months, we decided now is the time to call on our community to get behind this family and help
them out. At any moment this could happen to any of us, and we would appreciate all the help we could get as I know Nick & Cheri will.
Here’s the summary-

Starting on July 29, 2024, Nick went to Baylor Scott & White in Marble Falls, complaining of chest pressure. After running several tests, doctors discovered he was having a heart attack. Unfortunately, the hospital didn't have the facilities needed for his care, so they were transferred to Baylor Scott & White in Lakeway. While there, the plan was to perform a stent procedure, but upon further evaluation, the doctors found that Nick’s kidney function was not in good shape. As a result, they decided it would be best to not do the stent procedure and proceed with a quadruple bypass instead. We were then transferred to Austin Heart, where the bypass surgery was successfully performed. However, after the surgery, Nick had trouble waking up due to being under anesthesia for 38 hours, and during that time, he suffered his first stroke. The stroke caused Nick to lose his voice, his eyesight, and left him paralyzed on his left side. We were then transferred to Saint David's in Austin, hoping to get him into their stroke rehab program. Unfortunately, his condition didn’t meet the program’s requirements, so we had to move him to a local facility closer to home. About a month after returning to the facility, Nick started making significant progress. He was able to walk a little, regained his voice and sight, and although his left side remained paralyzed, it was improving. However, in September 2024, Nick experienced multiple seizures, which led to his second stroke. This time, the stroke affected both sides of his body, bringing him back to square one. After returning to the facility, Nick spent about a month there before suffering a TIA, which are essentially mini-strokes. During his time at the facility, we noticed he wasn’t happy, so we made the decision to bring him home and arrange for at-home care. He thrived being home, surrounded by his family and his puppy, Maddie. However, it wasn’t without its challenges. There were constant doctor visits and ER trips. Despite that, he was doing really well. On February 10, 2025, we took Nick to Baylor Scott & White in Marble Falls because he was struggling to breathe. After an X-ray of his lungs, they discovered fluid buildup. Further tests led them to conclude that he had pneumonia. Nick had both good and bad days, and it often felt like we’d take one step forward, then two steps back. He was moved to the ICU, but the doctor decided it was best to transfer him to a hospital with an ICU doctor available 24/7, as Marble Falls only had one during the week. Once we arrived at Baylor Scott & White in Temple, they felt he was improving and moved him out of the ICU. Still, he continued to have both good and bad days. Then, on February 18, 2025, his oxygen levels dropped significantly. The doctors rushed him into surgery to intubate him, and after running more tests, they discovered he had the flu. Despite adjusting his oxygen levels, the flu severely impacted his lungs. The doctors informed us there wasn’t much more they could do, as his lungs were too damaged. Nick is still fighting for his life with his family by his side. We ask for prayers and any financial assistance you can give. They are unable to work and household and medical bills are piling up. Thank you in advance for your generosity.
