Support Nicki Alexopoulos’ Family

Donation protected
On the evening of Tuesday, October 25, my family experienced the sudden and tragic loss of my mother, Nicki Alexopoulos (aka “Ms. A”), as the result of a heartless domestic shooting and senseless act of violence.

Sadly, this was not my mother’s first experience with domestic violence.

When I was very young, my mother bravely escaped from domestic violence and became a survivor. She began documenting her experiences in October 2013, with plans to one day publish her story as a means of helping others who endure domestic offenses.

My mother lost her final battle against domestic violence during what happened to be Domestic Violence Awareness Month – October. I plan to find any of her handwritten files and share her message to others that need hope or courage. Her story will not be forgotten; her spirit will live on.

She once said, “Survivors must also bear witness so people never forget. I learned this from a famous writer who survived the Holocaust. We tell our stories of violence against humanity not because we want people to feel bad or pat ourselves on the back. We tell our stories because, if we do not, the world might forget that this type of violence ever occurred. We do not want it repeated. If people know how bad it really was, perhaps they will just be in touch with wanting to help to prevent it to anyone they happen to know. My story is, of course, not as gruesome as what Elie Wiesel went through in concentration camps. But my story is a story of undeserved torture and survival.”

Never could I have imagined that my mom would be taken from us so quickly and in such a heart-wrenching manner. She was loved by many, touched the lives of everyone she met and was always willing to go the extra mile and help others in whatever way she could, no matter the situation.

Her passing has left a void in many lives that can never be filled. It has also left many unforeseen expenses that we are now responsible for covering. If you are able, any help with the following would be sincerely appreciated - more than my words could express:

 Celebration of Life Expenses and Memorial Funds
 Cleaning of Crime Scene (not fully covered by insurance)
 Numerous House Repairs (in preparation for selling)
 Monthly House Payments

During the shooting, a close family friend who was visiting my mother at the time was also critically injured. She is still receiving medical attention and in recovery. Therefore, I would love to be able to help her and her family with any current or future medical bills, travel expenses, and family treasures that were lost during the incident.

About My Mom

My mother graduated from Raytown High School, University of Central Missouri and University of Missouri-Columbia before beginning her legacy as one of the most admired English/Creative Writing teachers at Boonville High School. After spending most of her career in Boonville, she moved back to Kansas City to help care for her parents and taught at Fort Osage High School. Following retirement in 2001, she became an adjunct professor at Avila University.

She was preceded in death by her mother and her son, and survivors include her 96 year old father, myself, my husband and two adorable grandsons. She was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, teacher, friend and overall amazing woman.

The unexpected loss of a loved one leaves a heartache that cannot fully be healed, but the love from friends and family helps mend all wounds. Thank you for your support and consideration.
