Nick Lennox is my son-in law. He married my only daughter 10 days ago. They are both 5th grade public school teachers and love their profession and the kids. They started their fairytale life with buying a small house on May 27 and then having a very small wedding on June 10.
With big plans, they moved into their new house and immediately began working on it. On June 20, Nick was on a ladder staining his second floor deck. The ladder slipped and Nick fell. He thought he was ok and fought the pain for 7 hours. He finally agreed to go to the hospital.
After an MRI, X-rays, and CT Scan, etc... he was informed that he had shattered his pelvis into multiple pieces and had internal bleeding. He was transported, by ambulance to a Level 1 Trauma Center (University Of Utah Hospital). He was admitted and emergency surgery was planned.
As of of this moment, I sit in the waiting room of the surgery center. This bright, young, active, public servant has been in surgery for over 3 hrs. We have been told it is "going well" and they are installing "plates and screws". These two newlyweds have now racked up tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills. He has insurance, but their portion will still be in the thousands.
As teachers, they don't make much money, and spend their entire days looking after others. Please remember the teachers you loved and give on their behalf. Not only will the money keep these two kids out of financial ruin, but the support you show will help strengthen him for his long and painful recovery.
