Nick's NEW Heart!

Hello! I'm Heather, and I'm reaching out on behalf of my younger brother, Nick.

On June 15, 2021, Nick was taken to his local hospital, where it was confirmed that he was experiencing a massive stroke and needed immediate surgery to remove a blood clot. He was hospitalized in ICU for several days, and through a bit of research, we discovered that cardiomyopathy is a prevalent medical condition in nearly every male in our biological father's family.

This last year has been a struggle for him as he tries to balance his new normal with insurance complications, serious and life-threatening medication side effects, extreme limits on his physical capabilities and being a dad to his amazing daughter, Harper.

Unfortunately, Nick has been discouraged by more problems than solutions and now, he has spent the last 10 days in a more specialized hospital setting. His new cardiologist told him that he will need to have a complete heart transplant as soon as possible. He is in imminent danger of total cardiac failure and was outfitted with a Life Vest (a wearable defibrillator that monitors and delivers corrective shocks whenever needed and is $$$). He will be unable to work for a minimum of 6 months until he has passed some eligibility milestones and received his heart transplant.

There is still such a long road ahead, and I know that if the financial stress was somewhat relieved, he would feel much more optimistic about the daunting future he is facing. With insurance covering the vast majority of the over $300,000 in medical bills (just for this past hospital stay!), Nick is still responsible for approximately $12,000 plus the loss of income for an undetermined amount of time.
