Nick’s Road to Rehabilitation
Donation protected
On Saturday evening August 4th my brother Nick Lincoln was in an ATV accident while 4-wheeling in Wisconsin with eight of his good friends. Emergency medical services transferred him directly to the Green Bay, WI Aurora Baycare hospital, a level two trauma center. After physician assessments and multiple scans we now know that Nick has a Thoracic 7 (T7) burst fracture in his spinal column and a severe spinal cord injury. He has no sensation or motor function below his rib cage.
On Monday, August 6th nick underwent a spinal fusion to provide stability in his back and prevent further injury.
As as I sit here HELPLESS with whitney and my family, all I can do is think of his road to rehabilitation. When he is medically stable and meets criteria for discharge he will transfer to a 6-8 week rehab program before returning to their home in Webster City, IA.
One way I can think of, to help Nick, Whitney and their 1.5 year old daughter Sydney is to raise money for his life flight transfer to rehab (hopefully closer to home, that can cost anywhere between $5,000 and $10,000), as well as money to modify their home to be wheelchair accessible. We are hopeful that with Nick’s upper body strength that he will become independent again. In order for this independence, they will need equipment such as a wheelchair, wheelchair ramps into their home, a wheelchair accessible vehicle, slide transfer benches for showering, chair lifts to get to the basement where sydney’s Bedroom is, dressing and bathing assistive devices and things that we probably don’t even know exist.
We could really use your help to alleviate some stress and anxiety of the financial factors that are to come in the near future.
We appreciate the love, support, prayers and encouragement as we move forward in this process!
