Nicky John

Hi my friend is Sue and my friend Deena’s son Nicholas (Nicky John) passed away suddenly on Friday, August 18th, 2023.
Nicky was diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension at the young age of 22 and spent 16 weeks at Penn University Hospital in February of 2015. He was doing extremely well and miraculously had his condition under control for an unprecedented eight years, becoming amongst the first of persons with his diagnosis to go years without incident.
But then, this passed January, Nicky went to his routine pulmonary appointment. He had been short of breathe and the doctor immediately called emergency response and had him admitted into Temple University Hospital. Nicky had an edema in his body from a change in his medication. Within 24 hours Nicky was on life support.
After almost three weeks of being on life support and 22 days at top of the transplant list, Nicky John received a new set of lungs on January 26th 2023. He spent the next five months at Temple for rehabilitation of his body and to ensure that the new lungs were not rejected by his body.
Nicky was doing amazingly well. Until a few days ago Nicky experienced symptoms of a stomache virus and was transported to Cooper University for dehydration around 6am. He waved at his mother as the ambulance pulled away.
He was pronounced dead at 8:51am.
He is survived by his mother, Deena; his sisters Tyler and DD and brother George III.
Nicky’s mother raised him with her husband who was essentially the only father Nicky’s known. She is a bartender at a local bar in Gloucester City and although Nicky had been sick, his prognosis was all positive and the transplant had been a success so when Nicky left for the hospital we all thought he was coming home.
Nicky’s family is in need of financial assistance to properly lay him to rest. All donations will be used for funeral services and a remembrance of life. Anything that anyone can donate no matter how small it may seem will be such a help that his mother would be so incredibly grateful for.
Any Monies remaining over what the family needs will be donated in Nicky’s name to the Pulmonary Hypertension Association for research and the advancement in medicine to eventually cure others with this same disease.
We thank everyone for their support during this difficult time whether they are able to donate or not.
