Hi Friends and Family
On the 18th of October Nicky was rushed to hospital as she had difficulty breathing. Once in emergency, they put her under an induced coma and admitted to ICU. She contracted Influenza B and Pneumonia which led to her having breathing difficulties. She was put on a ventilator and on the 22nd October 2023 they also put her on an ECMO machine which are both life support machines, she was in a critical but stable condition.
After 2 weeks in ICU she developed a Pneumothorax twice, the doctors inserted a drain in her right lung to remove the Pneumothorax(air pocket). The drain is also used to remove sputum that was building up in her lung due to the Influenza B Virus and Pneumonia. She currently has fluid build up on her left lung and was put on diuretics to remove some of this fluid build up.
She is currently still on both life support machine and has been in ICU for longer than a month now, her road to recovery will still be a very long process.
As of today the doctors are very happy with the progress that Mom(Nicky is showing as they have started to reduce the Oxygen levels that she requires from both life support machines. In the next few days the doctors will be trying to remove the life support machines, if her body can cope without them. We keep praying.
If this goes ahead with success I/we will be able to hear her voice for the very 1st time, get to hold her and see her move as much her body would allow,we get to have her back. This would be an absolute blessing to us all, even though it sounds like a small thing to some, it means the world to us.
She is the MOST AMAZING mother, sister, granny and friend and we love and miss her more than words can ever express, she is a warrior, caring, loving and kind. We will never stop fighting to get her better and to come home, its what we hoping and dreaming.
This is not easy to ask for but we have never asked for much help when it came to looking after her mom (Nicky). We would deeply appreciate any help we can get to assist us in her medical care bills, no matter how small, every little bit helps.
We thank you so much for all the love and support,we appreciateit more than anyone could ever imagen and we are extremely grateful.
